Trends and Changes arising from COVID-19: Managing Employment Issues in 2021 at Singapore and US Workplaces By Rajah & Tann Singapore LLP and Littler
Globally, COVID-19 has caused a sea of changes in employment practices across workplaces in 2020. Employers are having employees do more cross-border work out of necessity. Employers increasingly rely on gig- and contract-type of workers, which replace or supplement their usual workforce. Employers’ workplace health and safety obligations are expanded owing to WFH and WFO obligations, and Employers more frequently face a need to implement cost-savings measures such as furlough etc. and/or the termination or retrenchment of their workers.

We know many of our clients manage workforces in multiple countries, including in Singapore, the United States, and elsewhere. In this program, we will explore in particular the following issues for Singapore and US workplaces: what are the legal issues arising from the changes described above? What essential employer obligations must human resource or legal teams understand for compliance, whether under the law in which the company was incorporated or the law in which the employee is based in? Is there truly more flexibility as employers turn to gig- and contract-type workers? What are the legal pitfalls faced by employers in their workplace health and safety obligations, or when varying contractual terms and ending an employment relationship?

Come join us this Breakfast session, where we take a deeper dive into the above issues from the perspectives of Singapore law by speakers from Rajah & Tann Singapore LLP and US law by speakers from Littler. Feel free to share in advance any questions or areas of discussion that you might have and would like us to specifically address during the session during your registration.
